She wore a sports bra and leggings to her workout, only to be interrupted mid-workout by an employee informing her that she was not in compliance with the dress code.

Ganevsky is not alone in her concerns. Many students have spoken out against the policy, citing instances where they have been asked to change into alternative clothing or even leave the facility altogether. 'I'm honestly considering getting a membership elsewhere next semester,' Ganevsky said. 'I'm not going to change my workout clothes just to go to the gym.'

The dress code policy at the Student Life Center is quite detailed, outlining specific guidelines for shirts, shorts, pants, and athletic shoes. For example, shirts must cover the sides, torso, and midriff, while sleeves that are cut off must be no lower than 4 inches from the armpit.

While some students may view these rules as necessary for hygiene and safety reasons, others see them as restrictive and unnecessary. 'I have since worn it many more times around campus,' Ganevsky said of her original outfit. 'As a musical theater major, I had worn this outfit to my classes all day and received no negative input on it.'

The Student Life Center offers alternative apparel free of charge for students who are unable or unwilling to change into compliant clothing. However, many students feel that this is not enough, particularly given the center's emphasis on promoting a sense of community and inclusivity.
